Danielle Hernandez of Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC was the guest speaker at the May 3 meeting.

The organization serves children ages 6-19 and matches them with a “Big” who serves as a friend and role model and offers access to new experiences. Children participating in the program develop leadership and problem-solving skills, self-confidence, social interaction and higher aspirations.

Danielle reported that 94% of the “Littles” become more confident, 87% become more motivated and 85% improve their behavior. Many also see improvement in their academic performance.
