The Rotary Club of Franklin was honored to have The CART Fund Executive Director Tiffany Ervin as our guest speaker at the August 9 meeting. She spoke about the power of one and how the efforts of one person can make a difference in people’s lives. She encouraged people to continue to find their passion in life and to “be a voice, not an echo.”
Rotarians in Sumter, South Carolina, started CART (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research) in 1996 by emptying their pockets and purses of spare change into little blue buckets at their weekly lunch meetings.
Today, there are more than 450 Rotary clubs in 25 districts participating. You’ll see those blue buckets on our tables each week as well as periodic coin drops when we are all invited to bring our jars of loose change to contribute to the cause.
Ervin said everywhere she goes someone has an Alzheimer’s story to share. “Our goal is for one day for nobody to have an Alzheimer’s story,” she said.
Because so many people’s lives are touched by Alzheimer’s disease, Ervin suggested club members share information about CART and opportunities to contribute with those outside of Rotary. For more information about CART, visit cartfund.org.
