Ron Urrutia from Smoky Mountain Pregnancy Care Center was the guest speaker for the July 31 Rotary Club of Franklin meeting.
Ron said former Sheriff Robbie Holland was instrumental in helping get the center started 20 years ago after a baby was found in the Macon County landfill. “We want to provide an opportunity for people to not go through what that young lady did,” he said. “People come to us when they don’t know where else to go.”
The nonprofit organization seeks to empower and educate men and women to make informed choices. They offer counseling and free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds. Ron said they want people to experience “love and life.”
During “Happy Dollars,” Rotarian Brittney Lofthouse shared how SMPCC helped her when she began feeling unwell during her first pregnancy and could not get an appointment to see her regular doctor.
